A Footlong BBQ Rib sub goes for $7.29 at my local Subway but I ended up getting the two Footlongs for $10 deal.
Interestingly, the sub is not toasted by default. Normally, I would get it toasted but I try to go by the default build for these reviews.
Unlike a McRib patty, the pork patties here weren't smothered in BBQ sauce (which may be why they're orange colored or maybe it's just my location that doesn't smother the pork with sauce).
The lettuce was a bit wilted and soggy this time around, which isn't typical of my local Subway. Regardless, I'm not sure why the lettuce is here as it doesn't do much in terms of texture or flavor. The onions actually had a nice bite to them (usually fast food onions are somewhat tasteless) as well as a good amount of crunch. The pickles were not as crunchy and added extra tanginess that was not needed as the BBQ sauce was already tangy.
The bread seemed a little stale. The crust was soft and chewy, while the crumb was airy but a little dry. It did enough to hold the sandwich together but was disappointing for a place that bakes their own bread daily.
Overall, Subway's BBQ Rib Sandwich makes for a fair stand-in for a McRib sandwich or something similar but definitely get it toasted as it would improve both the patties and the bread. It's quite cheap if you can get the two for $10 deal.
