Review: Coca-Cola with Coffee Dark Blend

Coca-Cola with Coffee Dark Blend features classic Coca-Cola infused with Brazilian coffee.

It's not going on sale until January 2021 but I received a couple of cans as a sneak peek courtesy of Coca-Cola.

I can't say that I'd ever thought about mixing Coca-Cola with coffee and the combination of the two together doesn't sound very appealing to me. It was surprising to me then that Coca-Cola with Coffee tasted fairly good.

Initially, it tasted just like Coca-Cola with the same flavor and amount of fizz but it's shortly joined by a robust and smooth coffee flavor that reminded me of Kopiko coffee candy, which is to say it tasted good but it didn't quite taste like any coffee that I've drunk. There's also just a hint of that artificial sugar aftertaste as the soda is sweetened with a combination of sugar, sucralose, and acesulfame potassium (good for 70 calories versus 140 for regular Coca-Cola). You might not notice the aftertaste but I've found that I'm particularly sensitive to the taste of artificial sweeteners.

Beyond the flavor, Coca-Cola with Coffee is the same color and consistency as regular Coke although I did notice that the head of foam had more volume and a lot more staying power than regular cola.

Overall, Coca-Cola with Coffee Dark Blend turned out pretty well with a fair balance between the flavor of cola and sweetened black coffee. That being said, I would rather have cola or coffee than the two together.
