I went and bought one for $1.49.
Ever since McDonald's did away with fried pies, KFC and Popeyes have been the only reliable place for me to get one. There's something great about the way the slightly flaky pie crust develops delicate, crackly bubbles that are very satisfying to bite into.
My particular pie seemed to have lost a bit of its top before it got to me so I took the opportunity to pick at the crust to offer a nice top-down view of how the filling sits with the dual piping and graham cracker crumbs.
Inside, the crumbs lend just a touch of that cheesecake crust feel as well a slight caramel note. The raspberry portion was chunk-less but actually tasted like raspberries rather than just having a generic berry flavor. The cheesecake was only slightly tangy and provided a sweet and creamy contrast to fruitiness of the raspberries.
Overall, Popeyes' Raspberry Cheesecake Fried Pie turned out really well and seems an ideal personal dessert for when you can't really decide between cheesecake or raspberry pie and/or find yourself with a hankering for a fried pie. It wasn't too sweet or tangy but still packed a lot of flavor.
