Jack in the Box's Chili Cheeseburger features a grilled beef patty, two slices of American cheese, beef chili, and chopped onion on a toasted, split-top bun.
I bought one for $5.99 as part of a combo with small fries and a drink (the burger alone would have been $5.29).
The chili came as a fairly thin but even layer. It was pretty smooth and somewhat paste-like (it reminded me of their taco meat in texture) with a muted, seasoned flavor that doesn't offer much in the tomato, heat, or sweet department.
The beef patty had a pretty nice sear to it as well as a good moisture level, while the cheese was nicely melted and creamy.
The onions had a strong bite to them but were very roughly and unevenly chopped. I liked the punch of onion flavor but a finer, more equal diced would have spread the wealth a bit better.
The bun was soft and just a little denser and sweeter than a standard burger bun.
Overall, Jack in the Box's Chili Cheeseburger makes for a decent chili cheeseburger but is a bit on the plain side. While the cheeseburger portion is quite good, the chili could use some more "oomph" and maybe a spread of yellow mustard.
