Citing the "growing popularity of this pizza style across the country and requests from customers," Pizza Hut came up with over 500 versions of the pizza and put in over a year of work on it. The chain's Detroit-Style pizza comes in a rectangular shape with cheese to the edges and is finished with a new, vine-ripened tomato sauce on top. The vine-ripened tomato sauce is only available on the Detroit-Style pizza.
As far as toppings go, Pizza Hut's Detroit-Style pizza offers four new topping combinations:
- Double Pepperoni - Topped with 48 slices of Crispy Cupped Pepperoni and 32 slices of regular pepperoni.
- Double Cheesy - Topped with two kinds of cheese--pizza cheese and aged Parmesan.
- Meaty Deluxe - Toped with bacon, Italian sausage and Crispy Cupped Pepperoni.
- Supremo - Topped with Italian sausage, red onions, and green bell peppers.
You can also customize the Detroit-Style pizza but only with a maximum of three toppings (as it won't bake properly otherwise).
You can find the new pizza style at Pizza Hut locations nationwide with prices starting at $10.99 (it's $11.99 here in Los Angeles for the Double Pepperoni and Double Cheesy and $13.99 for the Meaty Deluxe and Supremo).
With the new pizza launch, Pizza Hut becomes the second of the Big Four pizza chains to offer Detroit-style pizza. Little Caesars, which is based in Detroit, first added Detroit-style pizza to their menu (as the Deep Deep Dish Pizza) in 2013.
