According to Burger King, they bought over 200 tons of potatoes from French farmers that would normally be purchased by the food service industry in less trying times. The purpose being to help farmers with the overstock of potatoes, while encouraging customers to buy and cook potatoes.
To that end, the burger chain also put out a few simple potato-based recipes, which I've jotted down below:
Gratin Dauphinois
Ingredients - Potatoes, Garlic, Cream, Milk, Nutmeg, and Butter
Steps:
1. Cut the potatoes into slices and chop the garlic.
2. Cook the milk, garlic, nutmeg, and potatoes in a pan for 15 minutes.
3. Arrange all the ingredients in a buttered dish.
4. Bake at 180 C (~350 F) for 1 hour.
Swedish Potato (ed. note - AKA Hasselback potatoes)
Ingredients - Potato, Garlic, Olive oil, Herbs de Provence, Salt, and Pepper.
Steps:
1. Mix the seasonings.
2. Slit the potato (ed. note - A bit lacking in details.. maybe French people just know how to cut it. Regardless, if you're looking to make it, score it width-wise almost all the way through the potato about 2-3 mm apart from end to end)
3. Brush the potato with the seasonings.
4. Bake in the over for 40 minutes at 200 C (~400 F).
Galette from the King
Ingredients - Potatoes, Onion, Butter, Egg, Flour, and Olive Oil
Steps:
1. Peel, wash, and grate the potatoes and onion
2. Add flour and eggs and then mix.
3. Cook in a pan over medium heat for 4 minutes per side.
