The popcorn was quite puffy and round in shape (apparently it's called "mushroom popcorn" as opposed to "butterfly popcorn") with an added uneven shell from the sugary coating. The thinner parts of the shell were slightly crisped while the thicker parts were slightly chewy and prone to stick to your teeth. It was very much like kettle corn that you might get at a county or state fair.
The flavor is a bit more than the caramelized sugar of kettle corn, however. There's an extra bit of creaminess to it that's similar but not quite a caramelly as butter toffee popcorn. It also tastes somewhat like the Original Glaze on Krispy Kreme's signature donut but is more buttery and richer. Either way, it's quite tasty and addictive.
When it comes down to it, Smartfood Krispy Kreme Original Glazed Donut-flavored popcorn turned out really well. Whether you're a fan of Krispy Kreme's Original Glaze, butter toffee, or kettle corn, there's a nice balance of the three here and it's great.
