Chipotle Tests New Plant-Based Chorizo

Chipotle looks into adding a second plant-based protein option with a test of new Plant-Based Chorizo at participating restaurants in the Denver and Indianapolis area for a limited time.

Chipotle's Plant-Based Chorizo takes a natural protein sourced from peas and cooks with ancho chili and chipotle peppers, tomato paste, crushed garlic, Spanish-smoked paprika, and extra-virgin olive oil for "the deep rich flavor of chorizo." Features of the new plant-based protein include: it's certified vegan; is never frozen; contains 20 grams of protein per serving; contain no artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives; and is main without grains, gluten, or soy (Chipotle's regular menu plant-based Sofritas, which was introduced in 2014, is made with tofu [soy]).

If you happen to be in the Denver or Indianapolis area, Chipotle is offering $0 delivery fee on all Plant-Based Chorizo orders placed via the Chipotle app or website through August 29, 2021.

Chipotle previously offered actual chorizo as a protein option but it was discontinued in 2017 as it only made up 3 percent of protein sales so it should be interesting to see if the plant-based version makes it out of testing.
