Each 7-oz bag costs about $5 but I received these courtesy of Pillsbury.
Some pieces of both varieties were a little wet out of the refrigerated bag, which made me wonder if I should have froze them. The wet pieces tended to stick to each other and my fingers, while the drier pieces were fairly cohesive.
There isn't any butter in these so they lack that desired creamy richness and were a bit on the sweet side. Texture-wise, the cookie dough was fairly smooth, slightly tacky, and slightly gooey.
The chocolate chip cookie dough offered a slight caramel flavor and mild bursts of sweet chocolate, while the birthday cake cookie dough was more of a sugar cookie flavor loaded with the flavor of candy sprinkles.
Overall, Pillsbury Cookie Dough Poppins hit a nice baseline for cookie dough in general but doesn't go much further. They're tasty enough and work out well for snacking in front of the fridge but seem like they'll make a bit of a mess if they're out of the fridge for any decent amount of time. Of the two, the Birthday Cake Cookie Dough Poppins captured the birthday cake flavor better than the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Poppins did for a chocolate chip cookie flavor.
