Review: Domino's - Baked Apple Dip & Cinnamon Bread Twists

Domino's Baked Apple Dip & Cinnamon Bread Twists features baked diced apples with cinnamon flavor, i.e. apple pie filling, served with 8 Cinnamon Bread Twists for dipping.

I paid $7.99 for an order with a carryout special (it's $8.99 at normal menu prices). You can also purchase the dip separately for $3.99.

The bread twists turned out well with a nice, crispy crust and soft, chewy interior and a fair amount of slightly buttery cinnamon coating. Unfortunately, it pooled out quite a bit to the point that it soaked through a corner of the pizza box that the dip and twists came in.

The Baked Apple Dip turned out pretty good as well, although it only fills up maybe a quarter of the container, if that. There was a plentiful amount of diced apple chunks and the flavor struck a nice balance between moderately sweet and tart (it is much less sweet than the icing that the Cinnamon Bread Twists normally come with). There wasn't much cinnamon to it, but the coating on the Bread Twists more than made up for it. It reminded me a bit of a less sweet, less cinnamon-y take on McDonald's Apple Pie filling.

There was a bit of an issue in combining the two components however. Basically, the Baked Apple Dip didn't stick to the Bread Twists and wasn't at a high enough depth that the Bread Twists can just get under it and lift some up. I ended up getting a spoon and just scooping the dip onto the Bread Twists (as well as just scooping it into my mouth and cutting out the middle man). You can also tear the Bread Twists into some type of scoop or try and pinch some dip with the bread. On the plus side, it congeals as it cools to room temperature and is much easier to dip into at that point (but is no longer warm...).

When it comes down to it, I can sum up Domino's Baked Apple Dip & Cinnamon Bread Twists in the following manner. Baked Apple Dip? Good... Cinnamon Bread Twists? Also good... Baked Apple Dip & Cinnamon Bread Twists? Like two ships passing in the night... Also, it felt a bit pricey for what you get but I suppose an order of 8 Bread Twists with dipping sauce is already $5.99 with Domino's Mix & Match deal.
