The Cantina Crispy Melt Taco carries a suggested price of $2.19 per taco but goes for $2.59 in my area.
For the most part, the Cantina Crispy Melt Taco is the same as a Crunchy Taco Supreme save for two things: the white-corn taco shell and the melted layer of cheese that lines the bottom inner curve of the shell.
The white-corn taco shell was slightly thicker with more bubbling versus Taco Bell's regular taco shell. Biting into it yielded a heartier, crispier crunch but also a bit of a mess as it shattered into quite a few pieces (I don't recommend eating this one in your car). The cheese and beef actually helped hold the pieces together. It reminded me of a taco shell from frying a corn tortilla versus the more packaged-taco-shell feel of Taco Bell's normal taco shell.
Your mileage may vary but the melted cheesy layer in my Cantina Crispy Melt Taco appeared to be mostly nacho cheese so there wasn't any of that cheesy stretch that you might expect from a melt. It was to the point where the cheese layer was actually spicy (Taco Bell's nacho cheese actually has some jalapeno in it for heat but I usually have to eat a fair bit at once to actually taste the heat), which was nice but surprising. Combined with the shredded cheese on top of the taco, there was a strong, somewhat cheddar-y, cheesy flavor throughout.
Other than the shell and the extra layer of cheese, you get the classic combination of heavily-seasoned beef, crisp lettuce, firm but mostly tasteless tomatoes, mild and somewhat-dry cheddar, and slightly tangy cream of a Taco Supreme.
Overall, Taco Bell's Cantina Crispy Melt Taco made for an enjoyable but messy eating experience. I really like the crispier taco shell and while I would have liked a little bit of a cheese pull, the cheesy layer provided a pleasant distraction.
