A 13.5-oz box is about $2.99 but I received this courtesy of Pop-Tarts.
Straight out of the wrapper, the Egg Pop-Tart actually smells like Eggo waffles. After a quick heat in the toaster oven, it seemed slightly more delicate than a regular Pop-Tart and a touch more flaky.
As I bit into it, the familiar flavor of a regular Eggo waffle mixed with a buttery note, some sweetness from the icing (there didn't seemed to be any extra flavor to the white or yellow icing), and a sweet maple flavor. That's to say, it brought about the general feeling of eating an Eggo waffle topped with pancake syrup and a pat of butter but with very different textural cues between the delicate, flaky crust, the jam-like filling, and the hardened smooth icing.
Overall, Eggo Frosted Maple Pop-Tarts hit a pretty good mark on offering the enjoyable flavor of an Eggo waffle with maple syrup and butter in toaster pastry form. It's a little more portable than actually running around with an Eggo waffle with syrup but isn't exactly neat to eat with all the crumbling.
