Review: Taco Bell - Steak White Hot Ranch Fries

Taco Bell's Steak White Hot Ranch Fries feature seasoned fries topped with warm nacho cheese sauce, marinated grilled steak, diced tomatoes, 3-cheese blend, reduced-fat sour cream, and new White Hot Ranch Sauce (made with buttermilk and ghost chili peppers).

An order cost me $3.89.

For the most part, Taco Bell's Steak White Hot Ranch Fries aren't much different from the Steak Reaper Ranch Fries they offered a while back as the slight differences between the two is the new White Hot Ranch Sauce instead of Reaper Ranch Sauce and the presence of 3-cheese blend. The White Hot Ranch Sauce offered a similar level of heat but a more creamy, savory flavor versus the Reaper Ranch. It wasn't all that tangy or herb-y for a Ranch-type sauce. The heat was moderate but never uncomfortable and didn't stick around very long on the tongue.

Beyond the new sauce, the overall presentation of my particular order of Steak White Hot Ranch Fries was a bit lacking and jumbled. The fries were moderately seasoned but soft (Taco Bell's fries have been hit or miss in terms of crispiness for me on multiple visits). There wasn't all that much cheese to go around, which meant I got a pretty good taste of the White Hot Ranch Sauce but it really didn't feel like an order of nacho fries.

As far as the steak was concerned, I got some decent-sized pieces and they offered a nice flavor and meaty chew.

Taken altogether, Taco Bell's Steak White Hot Ranch Fries were good but not great. I liked the overall flavor and heat but it could have used a touch more acidity for variety.
