I got one for $2.59.
The pastry itself offered less of a flaky texture and more of a shortbread biscuit-type of dough. It was slightly sweet, soft, and somewhat denser than I find is typical of a Danish pastry.
While the pastry sported some nice browning, there was no crispiness to the crust.
The cream cheese came in a thick dollop in the center and was good for a sweet and creamy flavor and a slightly goopy feel.
The streusel was similar to what I typically see on coffee cake, which is to say it's sugar and maybe flour clumped up with fat. It offered a crumbly texture and some sweetness but not much in the way of buttery richness.
The vanilla icing drizzle was one of the components that was noticeable in every bite (the other being the pastry crust) and gave the Cheese Danish a mild vanilla quality and a light sweetness throughout.
Overall, McDonald's Cheese Danish turned out tasty enough but in terms of quality and texture, I'm unconvinced it's better than something similar you can get for less at a supermarket bakery or even from heating up a packaged Danish pastry. Still, the whole point of the McCafe Bakery line seems to be to spur an impulse buy, while you're getting your morning coffee.
