Review: Spicy Mustard-Flavored Doritos

Spicy Mustard-flavored Doritos feature tortilla chips with a spicy mustard flavor.

A 9.25-oz bag goes for $5.59 and they're sold out but I received this courtesy of Doritos.

Visually, these look like plain Doritos at first glance but a closer look revealed a dusting of yellow powder on the surface.

Spicy Mustard Doritos have a horseradish-like, savory mustard flavor. Like spicy mustard, they're not actually spicy hot in the way of chili peppers but are spicy like horseradish and wasabi, which has a more nose-clearing effect and an almost bitter-like quality. Unlike spicy mustard, there's not really a vinegar component here.

I haven't eaten any tortilla chips with a similar flavor to these. Snack-wise, the closest in flavor are honey mustard-flavored pretzels but without the sweet notes and with a more robust mustard quality.

Overall, Spicy Mustard-flavored Doritos turned out really well and better than I expected. The mustard flavor is never too overwhelming and is rounded out by a savory component. Hopefully, they end up bringing these back.
