Review: Burger King - Ghost Pepper Whopper

Burger King's Ghost Pepper Whopper features a flame-grilled beef patty, spicy queso, crispy-fried jalapenos, bacon, and ghost pepper cheese, served on a toasted orange bun and black sesame seeds. Unfortunately, my local Burger King either ran out of the orange bun or just forgot to add it.

The Ghost Pepper Whopper and a small fries cost me $7 using an offer in the app (the Ghost Pepper Whopper by itself is $8.99 near me).

The ghost pepper cheese was the spiciest component of the burger with a significant dose of heat that got my nose running. However, despite the heat and orange color, it otherwise tasted like American cheese.

The spicy queso offered a medium heat and decent cheesy flavor but it was only sparsely spread in a thin layer on the top bun and struggled as a result.

The crispy-fried jalapenos added a nice green color that went well with the orange of the cheese (and probably the orange of the bun if I had gotten the proper one) for Halloween. They were slightly crispy and decently spicy with a light jalapeno pepper flavor.

The bacon was solidly crispy and added a nice salty and smoky quality, while the beef patty was moist and beefy but (as is usual at my local Burger King) lacked any seared texture or flavor.

The regular Whopper bun was soft, moist, and airy. It held together well and was pretty standard as far as hamburger buns go.

Overall, Burger King's Ghost Pepper Whopper turned out to be a solid and spicy burger with a nice flavor and a fair variety of textures. That being said, it carries a premium price that doesn't really add up (especially for me with the missing orange bun) given the quality.
