It was $5.49 for the sandwich, which comes with a choice of dipping sauce (I went with ranch).
The chicken breast filet was generous in terms of length with a medium width and thickness. It wasn't juicy but it was moist. The breading was fairly thick with a craggy texture that only held a light crispiness against the Original Hot sauce (Buffalo sauce), which it had been thoroughly dipped in.
The Original Hot sauce added a strong tangy factor, a medium heat, and a punch of salt throughout the sandwich. Given the very even coat of sauce, the chicken struggled to deliver any flavor save for at the thickest sections. Also, when you take in that the chicken breast filet was already fairly salty and that the sandwich comes with pickles, it amounted to a sandwich that tasted every 3340 mg of salt listed in the nutritional info.
While pickles are standard on Wingstop's Chicken Sandwich, I'd advise going without them here as the tanginess of the Original Hot sauce is plenty for the sandwich. They do add an enjoyable crunch though. The ranch dipping sauce rounded out the Original Hot sauce really well but also weighed in with more salt that was not needed.
The bun was soft, dense, and fairly plain otherwise. It arrived untoasted but held onto the chicken well and was sturdy.
Overall, Wingstop's Original Hot Chicken Sandwich was a bit too much Buffalo sauce for me. The heat was nice but the tanginess was a bit much as the bun and chicken weren't able to do enough as a buffer. The chicken filet turned out solidly but I generally couldn't taste it against the sauce and found myself thinking that it could have easily been replaced with cauliflower, tofu, or various plant-based meat substitutes without much difference beyond texture.
