The holiday-themed Santa's Bakeshop Dozen costs $19.99 near me but I received this courtesy of Krispy Kreme.
The new Sugar Cookie Donut is an Original Glazed donut topped with sugar cookie icing and a sugar cookie sprinkle blend. While the name could be considered a dead giveaway, this one was the sweetest of the whole bunch as you're getting a fully-glazed donut with a sweet sugar cookie-flavored icing on top with some sprinkles for crunch. Beyond being sweet the icing had a notable sugar cookie flavor to it, which is to say a mix of butter and vanilla flavors. It looks like a plain generic holiday donut though.
The new Gingerbread Cookie Crumb Donut features a shell donut filled with gingerbread cream cheese and topped white icing, gingerbread cookie crumbs, mini gingerbread men sprinkles, and a drizzle of gingerbread icing. The gingerbread cream cheese mostly tasted like lightly spiced cream cheese and was particularly gingerbread-like in flavor. In fact, the gingerbread flavor throughout was pretty lacking. There was a nice contrast between the soft gingerbread cookie crumbs and crunchy gingerbread men sprinkles though.
The new Red Velvet Cake Donut offers a glazed red velvet cake donut topped with cream cheese icing and red velvet cake crumbles. The donut was pretty moist with a rather deep cocoa flavor but the cream cheese icing was rather mild in flavor and I found myself wanting more of it to really deliver that red velvet cake feeling. The cake crumbles were mainly there for decoration.
The Santa Belly Donut is a shell donut filled with Kreme, dipped in red icing, and decorated like Santa's belly with icing and a belt buckle sugar piece. They do this one every year and it's basically a regular Kreme-filled donut decorated to look like Santa's belly. It's not a bad look and you get some additional texture from the icing and sugar piece but flavor-wise, it's pretty normal.
The Chocolate Iced with Holiday Sprinkles Donut features an Original Glazed donut topped with chocolate icing and a holiday sprinkle blend. There's not much new to say about this one as it's just the chain's regular Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles Donuts but with holiday colors for the sprinkles. Like the Sugar Cookie Donut, it was very sweet. The chocolate flavor of the icing was very mild and mostly sweet.
Visually, Krispy Kreme's 2022 holiday donuts were pretty simple by the chain's standards but the overall flavors were nice enough the theme came through. My favorite was the Red Velvet Cake Donut, which isn't all that Christmas-y but offered a moist, chocolaty donut with light cream cheese notes.
