Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate-Covered Gingerbread Cookie Folk are basically their Chocolate Covered Lebkuchen but without the nuts and spices and with a festive gingerbread folk-type shape.
It was $3.49 for a 7.05-oz package.
There's a mildly-spiced chocolate aroma to each cookie.
Appearance-wise, the cookies are completely covered in dark chocolate and look somewhat like they're jumping.
The dark chocolate offers a smooth bittersweet chocolate flavor, which is joined by a lightly spiced, slightly caramelly gingerbread taste.
The cookie itself is a bit dry. The soft texture comes from an airy interior structure rather than any moisture (this is true of my experiences with lebkuchen as well).
When it comes down to it, Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate-Covered Gingerbread Cookie Folk as nice enough if you're looking for a more mellow (and dark-chocolate covered) gingerbread-type experience (which seems like what they're going for). However, I'd prefer something with a bit more punch.
