Trader Joe's Belgian Cookie Collection is a seasonal holiday tin filled with 12 varieties of cookies, including chocolate-enrobed cocoa cream wafers, buttery, chocolate-dipped shortbreads, and more.
A 35.2-oz tin costs $10.99.
They don't actually describe the cookies anywhere on the box or Trader Joe's website so you're left to guess what is what but the cookies are all pretty good and similar to Pepperidge Farm's Distinctive Cookie Collections. There's a more variety and a number of different cookies though as well as richer, creamier chocolate.
Trader Joe's Belgian Cookie Collection is also a good deal cheaper versus other similar cookie collections at a little over $5 a pound (compared to $8 to $10 a pound for Pepperidge Farm's collection and about $7.50 a pound for Costco's European Cookies with Belgian Chocolate tins).
I'll give a quick breakdown of the 12 cookies inside the box (going left to right):
- Top row - White chocolate-covered chocolate crispy cookie, milk chocolate-covered shortbread, dark-chocolate covered shortbread, and chocolate-covered crispy cookie.
- Middle row - Dark chocolate-dipped cookie, crispy flute cookies (like Pepperidge Farm Pirouettes and Delacre Roule D'Or), Circular speculoo cookies, circular thin cookies dipped on one side with dark chocolate and sprinkled with coconut flakes, and dark chocolate-dipped cookie.
- Bottom row - Crumbly chocolate-dipped cookie, milk chocolate-dipped graham-like cookies, and something that looks like a Bordeaux cookie but is more solid and lightly caramelly in flavor.
As I mentioned before, all the cookies are pretty good. For the most part, the chocolate-covered ones are fairly similar as they're either crispy plain cookies or crispy shortbread cookies so your best bet is to just go with your chocolate preference although I do find myself partial to the round chocolate-covered cookies. They're a bit thinner and slightly more delicate but the coconut seems mostly for decoration.
Of the non-chocolate covered ones (and overall), my favorite are the flute-like cookies, which are rich and crispier than the other cookies. The speculoos cookie offer that distinctive caramelized flavor, while the Bordeaux look-alike is fine but is also my least favorite of the box as it is the most plain (and makes me want a Bordeaux or Bordeaux-like cookie).
Overall, Trader Joe's Belgian Cookie Collection is excellent, especially for the money as chocolate-covered cookies for a little more than $5 a pound is a really nice price (usually fudge-covered cookies will cost you that much). If you can't try all 12 cookies, I advice going for the flute cookies (they go fast) or whichever type of chocolate strikes your fancy as the chocolate provide most of the flavor, while the cookie portion mostly adds texture.
