Hostess Chocolate Caramel Kazbars feature two layers of chocolate cake sandwiching layers of creme, candy crunch, and caramel, covered in a chocolaty coating and a sweet drizzle.
A 10-oz box contains 8 mini bars and costs about $5 but I got this courtesy of Hostess
The Kazbar is smaller than most Hostess snack cakes but comes covered in a familiar, thin and sweet chocolaty coating. The drizzle seemed to be more for visual appeal than anything.
The cake offered a familiar texture but was fairly moist given that it comes pretty much sealed in a coating.
What's different is the combination of caramel, creme, and candy crunch in the middle.
The caramel contributed light caramel notes and a touch of saltiness, while the creme filling creme offered more of a paste-like texture like an Oreo rather than the whip cream like texture in a Twinkie or Ding Dong.
The candy crunch had a light, airy crunch to it but served as more of a textural contrast rather than an extra flavor.
Taken altogether, the Hostess Chocolate Caramel Kazbar makes for a smaller cake-candy bar hybrid of the typical chocolate Hostess snack cake. As such, it felt slightly richer and sweeter with the caramel and candy crunch making the most notable difference. It's makes for a nice bit of variety in the Hostess line-up.
