Review: Jack in the Box - Bacon All American Steakhouse Burger

Jack in the Box Bacon All American Steakhouse Burger side-view

Jack in the Box's Bacon All American Steakhouse Burger features a ground ribeye beef patty served with natural cheddar cheese, smoky aioli, red onion, lettuce, and tomato on a toasted potato bun.

I paid $6.89 for the burger (a bacon-less version was available for $6.59).

Here, "All American Steakhouse" seems to mean a slightly fancier take on your standard fastfood cheeseburger with lettuce, onion, and tomato (although a previous "All American" burger from Jack in the Box--the All American Jack--did not have onion).

Jack in the Box Bacon All American Steakhouse Burger opened up.

They forgot the red onions in my burger, which I guess made it slightly less "All American" or maybe less "Steakhouse." Red onions tend to offer a milder flavor with less bite than white onions as well as a crunch.

The ribeye beef patty offered a slightly more robust beef flavor as well as a good amount of moisture and a bit more fatty richness. The grind of the meat was still the standard fast food fineness. The patty seemed to be a bit thicker and fit the bun better than Jack in the Box's previous All American Ribeye Burger.

The bacon was just slightly more than paper thin and crispy with a lightly smoky porky flavor. It was buoyed by additional smokiness and a creamy tang from the moderately spread smoky mayo er... aioli.

The cheddar cheese was thin and melted with a mild flavor that didn't stand out. Even though it was melted, since it's natural cheddar (a hard cheese), you're not going to get any gooey textures from it.

There was relatively more leafed iceberg lettuce in my burger than typical but it fit the bun well and was fresh and crisp. The tomatoes were firm with a mild flavor.

Jack in the Box Bacon All American Steakhouse Burger cross-section

The bun was soft, airy, and squishy but also sturdy with a decent amount of moisture to it.

Overall, while Jack in the Box's Bacon All American Steakhouse Burger hews to a fairly standard formula, the ribeye patty and smoky aioli do enough to keep a well-executed (save for the missing onions) fast food burger interesting.
