Review: Krispy Kreme - M&M's Specialty Dozen

Krispy Kreme's M&M's Specialty Dozen includes four Chocolate Iced Donuts Topped with M&M's, four Peanut Butter Kreme Filled Donuts Topped with M&M's, and four Original Glazed Donuts.

It costs $20.99 near me but I received this courtesy of Krispy Kreme. The dozen does not include the Chocolate Candy Surprise Donut Filled with M&M's.

The Chocolate Iced Donut Topped with M&M's features an Original Glazed donut dipped in classic chocolate icing, then covered with M&M's Minis Milk Chocolate Candies and crispy rainbow dots. It basically takes the chain's regular Chocolate Iced Donuts and adds on mini M&M's and confectionary rainbow dots.

The set of Chocolate Iced Donut Topped with M&M's that I got looked like either someone was messing around while sprinkling the rainbow dots or two separate people had decorated these. Regardless, one of the donuts seemed to have hoovered up all the dots but got left out of the M&M's Minis party, while the other ones only got a bare smattering of dots but plenty of M&M's Minis.

Between the glaze, chocolate icing, and candies, the donut was plenty sweet with some crunch from the M&M's and rainbow dots as well as richer chocolate notes (the icing was very mild as far as chocolaty flavor goes).

The Peanut Butter Kreme Filled Donut Topped with M&M's offers a shell donut with a center of Peanut Butter Kreme, dipped in peanut butter icing, and topped with chopped M&M's Peanut Chocolate Candies, rainbow dots, and a chocolate drizzle.

My batch didn't have much in the way of rainbow dots but, given the fairly plentiful and crunch chopped Peanut M&M's on top, I didn't miss them. There was plenty of Peanut Butter Kreme in my batch of donuts, which meant plenty of creamy peanut butter flavor. The peanut butter icing didn't really add on additional peanut butter taste. The milk chocolate and roasted peanut on top went well with the Kreme inside.

Between the two new donuts in M&M's Specialty Dozen, Peanut Butter Kreme Filled Donut Topped with M&M's was my favorite as I generally like peanut butter and it offered a bit more variety in terms of flavor. Both donut offered a good variety of textures and the requisite M&M flavors.
