I paid $3.99 for an order.
Wendy's roasted poblano peppers offered a creamy, mildly cheesy base with notes of poblano peppers and just a little bit of spicy heat. Basically, it felt like a pretty nice nacho cheese. There wasn't an abundance of it but there was just enough to get some cheese on most of the fries.
The shredded cheddar was placed on top of the queso and didn't really melt much. It might have been better to have spooned the queso over the cheese for a better melt and maybe some stretch (cheddar doesn't really stretch all that well though). The cheddar added just a touch of extra cheesiness to the queso.
The fries were lightly battered and pretty crispy. The crispiness held up well against the moisture of the queso and they're a good thickness to hit a nice balance between fried potatoes and cheese. My particular batch was just a touch too salty though.
Taken altogether, Wendy's Queso Fries turned out well. It was a bit simple but highlighted the queso well, while not overwhelming the crunch and flavor of the fries.
