A 14-oz container retails for $8.99, but I received this courtesy of McConnell's.
The dairy-free Gingerbread House has a rich aroma that's full of holiday spices, like nutmeg and cinnamon, with a molasses sweetness underneath. It definitely smells like a gingerbread cookie.
Texture-wise, McConnell's makes a decent non-dairy rendition of ice cream. The oat milk "cream" base is generally smooth and has an airier texture that is somewhat icy but still reasonably creamy. It melts rather quickly, as tends to be the case for non-dairy frozen desserts. The holiday spice flavor was light, and it was mostly just sweet.
There is a generous amount of gingerbread cookie pieces mixed throughout, as would be expected for a flavor named Gingerbread House. The gingerbread cookie pieces are somewhat dense and have a slightly grainy texture, which is typical for many gluten-free baked goods. There is some chewiness to the cookie pieces that might be attributed to it soaking up moisture from the ice cream base.
The chocolate swirls are pretty abundant but make for a somewhat odd inclusion for me, as I don't typically associate gingerbread houses with chocolate. The chocolate swirls are fairly liquidy, unlike fudge ribbons. However, they do have a nice dark chocolate flavor with some mild bitterness to help temper some of the sweetness of the other ingredients.
Overall, I enjoyed McConnell's Gingerbread House Dairy-Free "Ice Cream." It was minimally icy, had a deliciously spiced flavor, and had decent cookie bits. I would not get it at the suggested retail price, but I would probably buy it on sale.
