The suggested price for an order is $4.99 but it cost me $5.99 at my local Taco Bell. You can also get it with seasoned ground beef for a buck less.
The fries came flattened into almost a single layer in the same box as you would get a Mexican Pizza. They were wrapped in the same parchment paper that was used to grill/press the cheese. The amount of food given is a bit disappointing as it only covers about two-thirds of the box. It probably amounts to the same quantity of fries as Taco Bell's most recent topped fries with steak (from this summer) but for $1 more.
In terms of newness, there's not much to be had here beyond the grilled cheese, which mostly added a decently gooey texture and a slightly toasty flavor. The base cheeses were very mild and good for mostly creaminess.
The steak offered a lightly seasoned beefiness to go with a uniform tenderness and slight meaty chew. Unlike steak that you cooked on a pan or grill, it lacked any sort of crust or charred flavors.
The fries didn't suffer any more from being covered in wax paper than they do from being sealed with a plastic lid. They offered occasional bits of crispiness to go with a soft potato texture and fried potato flavor.
The main flavor of the Grilled Cheese Nacho Fries was, oddly enough, the Creamy Chipotle sauce, which was good for a smoky, tangy, and savory flavor and a mild heat that, given the other milder ingredients, actually built up to a low burn.
Taken altogether, Taco Bell's Grilled Cheese Nacho Fries turned out well enough with a simple combination of meat, cheese, and potatoes. However, they feel pricey for what I got and overly familiar in general.
