The first location of the test is set to open this month in Bolingbrook, Illinois. The location took over a former Boston Market restaurant and is curiously located right next to a McDonald's restaurant. The first test location features four drive-thru lanes for ordering and several drive-thru pick-up windows.
From the sound of it, the CosMc's concept is focused on digital ordering and drive-thru service with "dynamic menu boards and cashless payment devices." Drive-thru pick-up windows are assigned once your order is ready. Basically, they're trying an enhanced, standalone take on McCafe that's more geared towards the American preference for the drive-thru.
As far as the menu is concerned, CosMc's offers new "new, otherworldly beverage creations with a small lineup of food."
Drinks include lemonades, teas, signature drinks, slushes, frappes, and coffee.
Beverages can be customized with options such as popping boba, flavor syrups, energy boosts, or Vitamin C shots, and more.
The food menu includes a few sandwiches, snacks, and baked goods, as well as a few McDonald's menu items.
Examples of new, savory menu items include a Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich, Savory Hash Brown Bites, and Pretzel Bites with dipping sauce.
Sweet items include a Blueberry Lemon Cookie, Caramel Fudge Brownies, and Twist Cone.
McDonald's Classic items to be found at CosMc's include the McFlurry and Egg McMuffin sandwich.
McDonald's plans "a handful of additional [CosMc's] outposts" in the coming months. Additionally, by the end of 2024, they plan to open about 10 CosMc's pilot locations across the Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio metro areas.
If you're curious out the name, CosMc's takes it name from an alien McDonald's character that appeared in commercials in the 1980s, which is why the concept has a space theme to it. You can find the CosMc's website, which includes the full menu, here.
Update 12/8/23 - CosMc's has no seating indoor or outside. The kitchen is not equipped with fryers or a grill-top so it looks like everything is heated with an oven similar to Starbucks or Dunkin'.
