Pizza Hut's Chocolate Donuts Bites feature "warm, chocolatey cake-donut bites with chocolate filling" tossed in granulated sugar.
It costs $7 for an order of eight bites if you buy two or more items from the chain's current value menu or $8.49 if purchased alone.
The Chocolate Donut Bites appeared to have been freshly fried and sported a warm and crispy exterior. The crispiness extended relatively deeply under the surface--more so than I'd ever encountered in a cake donut. The fairly thick crust was fairly airy and a little powdery due to the more open structure setting during frying. There was an additional crunch from the granulated sugar that seemed redundant.
In size, they're more like two bites or one really big bite.
The chocolaty flavor of the donut itself was very light but there was a decent chocolate flavor to the filling. However, in some bites, the chocolate filling seemed to have cooked through for a moist, cake-like filling rather than one of gooey chocolate. A few of the bites had a gooey filling though.
Overall, Pizza Hut's Chocolate Donut Bites turned out well enough if you're in the market for a warm, crispy, mildly chocolaty, cake-donut-adjacent dessert. However, it didn't quite scratch my itch for a cake donut and seems a bit expensive for what might add up to three-cake-donuts-worth of Bites, especially if you buy an order on its own.
