The 13.39-oz giant cookie was $7.99.
Opening the wrapper dispersed the wonderfully rich small of butter. The cookie was roughly the size of a dinner plate and comes whole. According to the packaging, it's traditionally broken into shareable pieces with a hammer.
The cookie crust was covered on top with in a sweet glaze and sprinkled with almond slices. The glazed added a mild caramelized sugar note, while the slices contributed a hint of toasty almond flavor and a delicate crunch.
The cookie is similar to Walkers shortbread or home-made shortbread, which is to say it's made with a minimal ingredient list (wheat flour, concentrated butter, sugar, egg, sliced almonds, and sea salt). The texture was hard, crunchy, and crumbly, while the flavor was mostly rich butter. It's also similar to Danish butter cookies but is crunchier and more buttery.
As a fan of butter and shortbread, Trader Joe's Shareable Shortbread French Butter Cookie was great. However, there's a fair amount of crumbs and bits that result from all the breaking but you can always use them as a topping for oatmeal or ice cream and whatnot. It's also a relative bargain compared to Walkers (a 5.3-oz box of Walkers shortbread cookies is around $4 or more).
