The Vanilla Frosty is Wendy's default flavor for when they're not doing a seasonal flavor such as Strawberry, Pumpkin Spice, or Peppermint. Part of the reason it gets switched out is that it serves as the base for the seasonal flavors.
Chocolate is the original Wendy's Frosty flavor and has never left the menu. The Vanilla Frosty was first introduced in 2006 and was a permanent menu item for a good number of years until they started swapping it out starting in summer 2022 (for the Strawberry Frosty).
Wendy's switched to a two-drum Frosty machine set-up (up from a one-drum machine) in 2006 when the Vanilla Frosty was first launched. With two drums, they can only offer two flavors at a time.
You can expect the Vanilla Frosty to stick around on the Wendy's menu for a limited-time through late spring 2024.
