KFC's Smash'd Potato Bowl features a bowl of mashed potatoes, Secret Recipe Fries, warm cheese sauce, bacon crumbles, and three-cheese blend.
I got a bowl for $3.49.
There was a generous amount of bacon crumbles sitting on top of the mashed potatoes--it was actually more than you see on the chain's product photos. The bits of bacon weren't crispy but they imparted a salty meatiness and smoky flavor throughout.
The cheese sauce offered mild and creamy cheddar notes that was echoed by the three-cheese blend. The 3-cheese blend also added a welcomed gooey stretchiness here and there.
The mashed potatoes were smooth and mildly creamy. While the Secret Recipe Fries were only crispy at parts, they had a hardened, slightly chewy crust that, combined with the mashed potatoes, really delivered on a baked potato skin feel. Combined with the cheese and bacon, the Smash'd Potato Bowl felt like a twist on a loaded potato skin.
At the end of the day, I was pleasantly surprised by KFC's Smash'd Potato Bowl as it really made for an enjoyable and interesting take on a loaded potato skin. Of particular note was how well the texture of the mashed potatoes and fries fit together here.
