Krispy Kreme's St. Patrick's Day Donuts feature a collection of new donuts that offer decorative finishes on a few of the chain's classic donuts. The selection includes the Luck of the Rainbow Donut, Shamrock Cookies 'N Kreme Donut, Plaid Party Donut, and Shooting Shamrock Donut.
The St. Patrick's Day Dozen costs $23.99 near me but I received this courtesy of Krispy Kreme. While there aren't any new flavors here, there's a decorative box (I find that the chain tends to have a special box for the donuts that are holiday-themed rather than flavor-themed) and various looks for the holiday.
The Luck of the Rainbow Donut is an Original Glazed donut dipped in green icing and "rainbow explosion" sprinkle blend, then topped with a buttercream cloud. It tastes like an iced Original Glazed donut but with just a little bit of buttercream in that one bite. Visually, it works rather nicely. I can see the case for green given the theme of the holiday but it might work with a half of blue icing to serve as the sky.
The Shamrock Cookies 'N Kreme Donut features a shell donut filled with cookies & Kreme filling, dipped in white icing, and decorated with green icing drizzles and St. Patrick's Day-themed sprinkles. I'm not sure whoever decorated these particular donuts got the memo on the "shamrock" part of the name. The green icing drizzles didn't really look like a shamrock and looked more like loosely tangled green string. There's a bit of a "gift" vibe from the visual.
The Plaid Party Donut offers a shell donut filled with white Kreme filling, dipped in chocolate icing, and given a plaid-like pattern with two shades of green icing. The donut has a simple design but it's clean and I like it.
The Shooting Shamrock Donut features an Original Glazed donut dipped in light green icing and decorated with a green icing swirl and a shamrock sugar piece. It tastes a lot like the Luck of the Rainbow Donut but with slightly different textures due to the toppings. I'm not a huge fan of the sugar piece which has the same texture and flavor as a sugar cube but the appearance, while slightly sparse, offers a simple design similar to the Plaid Party Donut.
