Review: Aldi - Parkview Original Irish Style Bangers

A package of Aldi Parkview Original Irish Style Bangers.

Aldi's Parkview Original Irish Style Bangers are Irish-style sausages that are available for a limited time around St. Patrick's Day.

A 14-oz package of five banger sausages cost me $4.29.

These are fully-cooked, unsmoked pork sausages that are 12% wheat according to the package.

I've tried frying these in a cast iron pan as well as in an air fryer and the sausage skin never quite got tight enough to offer a proper snap of bite. I'm not sure if I needed to cook them longer but they were piping hot with each method. Regardless, the skin was chewy and hard to break by biting as well as cutting.

Inside, the banger's texture was similar to a hot dog with a fine grind but was softer. I ended up eating these with mashed potatoes and there was only a slight difference in texture between the two.

Flavor-wise, the Irish Style Bangers were mildly spiced with a bit of a different mix than the American sausages I'm used to. I couldn't quite put my finger on any specific spice but it lacked the familiar notes of fennel and sage of more herby American sausage as well as the paprika and garlic of smoked sausages. Additionally, it wasn't as salty as American sausage.

Overall, Aldi's Parkview Original Irish Style Bangers were just okay for me in that I would eat them if they were put in front of me but I wouldn't buy them again. The texture of the skin was off-putting and the flavor was too mild.
