Krispy Kreme's Total Solar Eclipse Donut features an Original Glazed Donut dipped in black chocolate icing and topped with silver sprinkles, a layer of buttercream made with Oreo pieces, and a whole Oreo cookie in the center.
The new donut is meant to look somewhat like the moon (Oreo cookie) blocking out the sun (the buttercream) against a dark sky filled with stars (the black chocolate icing and silver sprinkles).
You can find the Total Solar Eclipse Donut at Krispy Kreme shops across the country through Monday, April 8, 2024 (which is the day of the eclipse). They can be purchased individually or as part of a specialty dozen that includes six Total Solar Eclipse Donuts and six Original Glazed Donuts.
This is the second time that Krispy Kreme has introduced a new donut to commemorate a total solar eclipse. During the last one in 2017, the donut chain introduced the Chocolate Original Glazed Donut as Krispy Kreme's signature Original Glazed Donut eclipsed by chocolate glaze.
