I bought one for $2.99.
Because the chicken, sauce, and cheese mostly just lined the fold of the taco shell, it looked a bit empty. Normally, the space would be filled with lettuce and cheese but it's just sitting empty here.
The chicken was moist-to-juicy and tender with a pretty good, savory, seasoned flavor to it. I would pick it over Taco Bell's grilled chicken every time.
There was a good amount of melty cheese both inside and outside of the taco shell and with little to distract from it, I could taste the cheese very well.
The Creamy Jalapeño sauce was the main driver of flavor for the taco and it offered a decently rich, grassy base paired with a mild heat. While I could taste the savory flavor of the chicken and the light creaminess of the cheese, they definitely took a backseat to the sauce. I mean I like the sauce but I could have used half the amount although I feel like this is something that can vary from location to location.
I tried a bit of the Cantina Chicken Crispy Taco with the Avocado Salsa Verde, which adds on a mild avocado flavor with a bit of tomatillo tang, a healthy dose of spices, and just a touch of heat but it didn't really mesh well with the Creamy Jalapeño sauce. It would probably be better to just have one or the other rather than both.
The white corn taco shell was less bubbly than a regular Taco Bell taco shell. Along with the smoother texture, it had a harder crunch to it.
For the most part, Taco Bell's Cantina Chicken Crispy Taco is basically a fast-food chicken melt in a taco shell and I'm not mad at that at all.
