I paid $7.99 for one.
The Burger Sauce was a creamy, tangy, and sweet, mayo-based sauce with notes of ketchup, mustard, and pickles. As with a lot of "burger sauces," it tasted a lot like Thousand Island. It was well-balanced and added to the burger feel to the proceedings.
The crust was crispy with a flaky, layered quality that was crunchy at the surface but with soft slightly oily layers underneath. Inside was a good amount of meat, cheese, and onion.
The onion was very mild with just a touch of sweetness. It was soft and didn't stand out in terms of texture.
The bacon added a slight crispiness and a smoky, salty meaty bite, while the beef had more of a sausage-like bounciness and a mild beef flavor. The combination of the two was enough to provide some meat in every bite of the Melt.
The cheeses were nicely melted but generally lacked a cheese pull. They mostly provided a creaminess without much distinctiveness, which is to say it was pretty standard for big-chain pizza. The parmesan on the crust offered mostly a slightly grainy texture but with little in the flavor department.
Overall, Pizza Hut's Cheeseburger Melt did pretty well on the cheeseburger front although it's a little bit more like a chopped cheese sandwich. I'm glad they did not go the Papa John's route with pickles as the Burger Sauce provided both a tanginess and a surprisingly nuanced flavor.
