Pizza Hut Adds New Chicago Tavern-Style Pizza and New Toppings

Pizza Hut introduces new Chicago Tavern-Style Pizza along with what the pizza chain is calling its "biggest topping menu overhaul in over a decade."

Pizza Hut's new Chicago Tavern-Style Pizza features the chain's Thin 'N Crispy crust cut into squares rather than slices and sprinkled with cheesy garlic Hut Dust seasoning. You can get it with your choice of toppings or in one of four recipes.

Tavern pizza (also known as bar pizza or party pizza) is a pizza style from Chicago that features a thin, cracker-like crust with a square cut. The thin crust makes it less filling (so you could drink more) and the square cut makes it feel more like a bar snack. The pizza toppings go all the way to the edges as there's no lip at the edge.

Speaking of edges, the Edge Pizza that Pizza Hut brought back for a limited time in 2021 would pass for a tavern pizza. Indeed, all the thin-crust pizzas offered by the other Big Four pizza chains (Domino's, Little Caesars, and Papa Johns) feature a cracker-like thin crust that is either square cut or can be a square cut by request.

The topping menu changes see the permanent addition of eight toppings: Spicy Marinara Sauce, Pesto Sauce Swirl, Chicken Sausage, Fresh Diced Garlic, Grape Tomatoes, Caramelized Onions, Fire Roasted Peppers, and Crispy Cupped Pepperoni. Meatballs have been discontinued from the topping choices.

The four specialty Tavern-Style Pizza recipes include:

• Pesto Margherita - Sweet marinara, grape tomatoes, and roasted garlic, finished with a drizzle of basil pesto.
• Ultimate - Sweet marinara, Italian sausage, classic pepperoni, fire-roasted peppers, caramelized onions, and grape tomatoes.
• Spicy Chicken - Spicy marinara, chicken sausage, fire-roasted peppers, and caramelized onions.
• Double Pepperoni - Sweet marinara topped with both classic and crispy cupped pepperoni.

Pizza Hut's Chicago Tavern-Style Pizza is available now at participating locations nationwide. The chain has a special where you can get a large, 1-topping Chicago Tavern-Style Pizza for $12 (may vary).
