Trader Joe's Spaghetti Carbonara is a frozen meal featuring "spaghetti in a creamy sauce with uncured pancetta, Grana Padana, and Pecorino Romano cheeses."
A 16-oz bag was $4.29.
It's pretty interesting how the Spaghetti Carbonara came out of the bag. The noodles were little bundles, the frozen sauce was broken up into chunks, and the pancetta looked like little crumbles. Surprisingly, none of it was stuck together.
The noodles were al dente with a toothsome bite to them.
The sauce was thick, smooth, and creamy tinged with the salty flavor of romano and Gran Padana cheeses. It clung well to both the noodles and the pancetta (and the sides of my Pyrex container).
The pancetta looked a bit like pink sausage crumbles and provided bursts of salty meaty goodness. While it resembled sausage, the pancetta had a much meatier chew. It lacked the extra flavor from a good pan sear but was otherwise quite nice.
Overall, Trader Joe's Spaghetti Carbonara turned out nicer than some of the carbonara I've made before (not that I'm a great cook or anything). The taste and texture were on point and the price is very affordable. I would definitely get this one again.
