Review: Popeyes - Chocolate Chip Biscuit

A Popeyes Chocolate Chip Biscuit on a dish next to a quarter.

Popeyes' Chocolate Chip Biscuit features the chain's biscuit filled with chocolate chips and drizzled with icing.

I bought a Chocolate Chip Biscuit for $1.79 (it was also available priced at two for $2.99).

The biscuit came packaged in a side container with a plastic lid. I don't know if that's the default or just something that my local Popeyes does.

Popeyes Biscuits are closer to scones than biscuits and this one was no different. It was on the flat side and more spongy than flaky.

The crust of the biscuit was sadly soft while the crumb was soft and a little chewy. The chocolate chips were pretty tiny and, partially due to that, the slightly bittersweet chocolate flavor was generally mild without the pop of flavor you might get from a bigger pocket of chocolate. Along with the mild chocolaty flavor, there was a fair dose of salt from the biscuit.

The bulk of the sweetness of the Chocolate Chip Biscuit came from the icing which was still melty and not hardened.

When it comes down to it, Popeyes Chocolate Chip Biscuit was fairly good. It could use just a little more chocolate or bigger chocolate chips but the flavor was enjoyable and it wasn't too sweet. I liked it better than the Strawberry Biscuit.
