Boston Market's Meat Lovers Meatball is a frozen meal consisting of "oven-baked meatballs with Italian sausage, tomato sauce, and penne pasta." There's also mozzarella, parmesan, and asiago sprinkled on top but it's not mentioned on the front of the box.
A 13-oz meal was $2.99 on sale (normally $4.29).
The name for the meal is a bit weird as it makes it sound like a single meatball made of many meats rather than a meaty pasta dish.
The pasta was soft and tender but held the sauce well enough. The sauce was nicely balanced and not too tangy or sweet. There was a nice tomato-y flavor to it and pretty thick.
The Italian sausage came in crumbles and had a nice springy bounce to them. Flavor-wise, there was a decent pork flavor and a strong fennel note. They had a stronger taste versus the meatballs and were more evenly distributed given the smaller size.
There were about five meatballs in the dish and they were pretty standard as far as frozen meatballs go. They had a meaty flavor, a spongy texture, and a hint of parmesan. They weren't particularly beefy compared to any other meatball though.
The mozzarella was creamy and gooey with a good stretch pull while the parmesan and asiago provided light accents but no texture. The cheeses provided a rich counterpoint to the acidity of the sauce and savory quality of the meats. Additionally, they browned at the edges for some chewy, crisp texture and toasty notes.
Overall, Boston Market Meat Lovers Meatball made for a very enjoyable rendition of the classic combo of pasta, tomato sauce, and meat. There was a surprising variety of textures to go with judiciously balanced flavors.
