A 1.4-oz cup costs $1.69 near me but I received this courtesy of Reese's.
If you've never tried a Reese's Big Cup, it's more taller than wider than a regular Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. The added height is mostly due to a thicker layer of peanut butter which results in a stronger salted peanut butter flavor to go with the standard milk chocolate.
The chocolaty filling of the Chocolate Lava Big Cup dialed back the stronger peanut butter component while adding a slightly bittersweet, chocolate syrup-like flavor. In taste, the difference from the "chocolate lava" was slight but the texture was more pronounced. The chocolaty layer delivered on the chocolate lava premise with a smooth, gooeyness that wasn't runny. Furthermore, the layer was present in each bite.
I pressed down on the cup to get some of the chocolaty filling to ooze out here (you can see how the filling actually goes up halfway up the sides of the cup):
Taken altogether, Reese's Chocolate Lava Big Cup was good, especially if you're looking for some extra variety (gooey texture and extra chocolate flavor) in your chocolate peanut butter cup eating.
