Review: Taco Bell - Mtn Dew Baja Blast Gelato

Taco Bell's Mtn Dew Baja Blast Gelato features gelato with the tropical lime flavor of Mtn Dew Baja Blast.

A 3.6-oz cup cost me $3.99.

At 3.6 ounces, the cup was tiny and reminded me of the small ice cream cups with a wooden spoon--only the gelato comes with a plastic spoon that you snap off the bottom of the lid.

As far as the flavor goes it tasted like slightly creamy Mtn Dew Baja Blast, which was nice. It was a little watery at some points though.

Unfortunately, it didn't feel like gelato at all. It lacked that smooth, dense, slightly elastic texture. Instead, it was more like Italian ice in texture. It was a little airy and cracked and flecked off when I scooped it with the spoon. It wasn't bad but it wasn't gelato. I'm not sure if there was a freezer mishap at my local Taco Bell but I don't think re-frozen gelato is supposed to be this icy.

Overall, Taco Bell's Mtn Dew Baja Blast Gelato had a good flavor and a decent texture but it didn't feel like gelato at all. In fact, it wasn't far off from the texture of one of the chain's Freezes, which are available in a 16-oz cup for $1 during Happier Hour... although I suppose it's close to $4 ($3.69) for a regular outside of Happier Hour.
