As you may have guessed from the name, the Chicken Big Mac is a Big Mac but with two "tempura battered chicken patties" in place of the two beef patties. Otherwise, the new fast-food menu item includes the same pickles, lettuce, American cheese, and Big Mac Sauce on a toasted sesame seed bun (but no onions).
According to McDonald's, "Featuring the same familiar toppings as the Big Mac but with two tempura battered chicken patties, in place of the two all-beef patties, this unique taste gives fans what they crave and leaves them wanting more."
The Chicken Big Mac will be available for a limited time at participating McDonald's restaurants nationwide while supplies last.
Interestingly enough, Burger King already beat McDonald's to the punch with a similar chicken sandwich called the "Chicken Big King" back in 2014. That same year, KFC Canada also put out a chicken version of a Big Mac called the "Big Boss Sandwich."
Update 10/7/24 - I contacted McDonald's and was told that the chicken patties are new and differ from McChicken patties and McCrispy filets. They mentioned that during development, "they found that the tempura battered chicken patties paired nicely with the creamy tanginess of the iconic Big Mac Sauce, making for the ultimate savory, crispy bite." Also, the Chicken Big Mac will not contain onions. I've updated the post accordingly.
