Review: McDonald's Dulce de Leche Frappe

Side-view of McDonald's Dulce de Leche Frappe next to a quarter.

McDonald's Dulce de Leche Frappe features a blend of ice, caramel coffee Frappe base, and a new dulce de leche-flavored syrup, topped with whipped cream and crunchy caramel pieces.

A small Frappe was $3.19.

As with the rest of McDonald's Frappe line, the Dulce de Leche Frappe was easy to drink with a straw and offered a pleasant, sweet, and creamy coffee flavor.

The caramel notes were strong. Compared to the regular Caramel Frappe, it was creamier and more like butterscotch, which makes sense since dulce de leche is made by slowly simmering sugar and milk while caramel is made by slowly simmering sugar and water. It made for a slightly more complex, rich flavor.

The crunchy caramel pieces on top had a loose, granulated texture and sweet caramel flavor. It's only on top of the whipped cream so I had to stir it in to add a bit of crunch to the Frappe. The pieces were easy to suck up the straw.

Overall, McDonald's Dulce de Leche Frappe made for an enjoyable sweet frozen coffee. It's a bit on the too-sweet side for me but if you enjoy the Caramel Frappe, this offers a slightly richer, creamier, and more textured version.
