The new menu item features Cantina Slow-Roasted Chicken marinated in "savory spices and a hint of pineapple." The chicken is then served in a street taco-sized Quesalupa-inspired shell along with onions and cilantro. An order of Chicken Al Pastor Street Chalupas includes two of the Street Chalupas for $4.99 to $5.99, depending on the location.
Chicken Al Pastor Street Chalupas are also available in a combo (along with chips & nacho cheese and a medium fountain drink) starting at $6.99 and in a Box meal (with a Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, a Crunchy Taco, Cinnamon Twists, and a medium fountain drink) starting at $9.99.
Al pastor typically refers to marinated slices of pork layered and cooked on a vertical spit. You can consider it the Mexican version of shawarma as it originates from Lebanese immigrants who used the same cooking techniques as shawarma but with ingredients more readily available in Mexico. Taco Bell's chicken-based version aims to offer a similar flavor using an al pastor-style marinade.
