Review: Jersey Mike's Classic Pastrami Sub

Side view of Jersey Mike's Classic Pastrami Sub.

Jersey Mike's Classic Pastrami sub sandwich features sliced brisket-cut pastrami, grilled onions, pickles, Swiss cheese, and spicy brown mustard on white sub bread.

I paid $10.95 for a regular-size Classic Pastrami sub.

Jersey Mike's Classic Pastrami Sub opened up next to a quarter.

Whether by accident or by design, the bread for my sub was toasted. I've had their cheesesteak on several occasions and it wasn't toasted (I'm not even sure Jersey Mike's uses toasters so maybe it was grilled on the flattop?). Whatever the reason, the toasting added a nice crunch to the proceedings.

The pastrami was moist, plentiful, and tender with a salty, peppery flavor while the onions that it was grilled with added a light watery crunch and slight sweetness. The Swiss cheese on top was thoroughly melted and added a creamy richness to the sandwich.

The spicy brown mustard was not so spicy. I didn't pick up any horseradish-y heat from it but did get a tangy flavor. Additional tangy notes came from the fairly thick and crunchy pickles.

Overall, Jersey Mike's Classic Pastrami sub was pretty solid with a nice mix of textures to go with the meaty, peppery pastrami. I did find myself wishing for a stronger mustard and a bit more sweetness though.
