Review: Trader Joe's British Shortbread Cookie Collection

A box of Trader Joe's British Shortbread Cookies.

Trader Joe's British Shortbread Cookie Collection features "a selection of three sweet cookies: English Toffee and Nut, Coffee, and Cocoa."

The English Toffee and Nut Shortbread Cookies contain crunchy toffee pieces, the Coffee Shortbread Cookies contain specks of ground coffee, and the Cocoa Shortbread Cookies are made with cocoa and include meringue pieces.

A 10.58-oz box costs $7.99.

The box includes a latch so you can reseal it but each variety of cookies comes in a plastic-wrapped tray that can't be resealed. The latch doesn't serve much purpose; once the cookies are opened, the box can't keep them fresh as it's not even close to air-tight. If you're setting them out for guests, you'll want another container to store any leftovers.

The cookies are small and bite-sized with an enjoyable crunch.

The toffee cookies are my favorite of the bunch. The toffee offers a chewy texture and a slightly salty note of caramel that goes well with the richness of the cookie. They're made with roasted hazelnuts but I didn't really pick up the flavor.

The coffee ones have a mild, pleasant coffee flavor to go with a nice buttery note.

The cocoa cookies offer a surprisingly rich chocolaty note and a slight texture change-up with the crumbly meringue.

Overall, Trader Joe's British Shortbread Cookie Collection makes for a tasty and rich selection of shortbread/butter cookies. The flavors offer something for everyone unless you like fruit or something tart.
