It's $5 in most markets but cost me $6 here in Los Angeles. They still had some Double Chocolate Peppermint Footlong Cookies leftover from Christmas and were selling them for $3 each, so I also picked one up. Both cookies came in a holiday-themed wrapper.
They only heated the cookie in the turbo convection oven for about 30 seconds but it was piping hot and held the heat pretty well.
The Oreo Footlong Cookie was more like a brownie than a cookie. It was moist and dense with a slight chewiness. Unlike a cookie, it lacked any crispness other than from the Oreo pieces on top. It was just a tad more oily than most brownies or cookies.
Flavor-wise, there was a relatively deep chocolaty flavor to the Oreo Footlong Cookie joined by a bit of marshmallow flavor and stretchy texture from the "sweet vanilla cream" that ran along a groove along the center of the cookie. I didn't pick up much in the way of vanilla.
Overall, Subway's Oreo Footlong Cookie made for an enjoyable chocolaty brownie with a good bit of textural variety between the "cookie," cream, and Oreo pieces.
As for the Double Chocolate Peppermint Footlong Cookie, it consists of chocolate cookie dough packed with chocolate and white chips, mixed with peppermint extract, and topped with candy cane pieces.
Like the Oreo version, it also felt like a brownie but was slightly milder on the chocolate front. On a side note, it seemed like the cookie shrunk a little from sitting in the fridge/freezer for too long. It wasn't dry though.
The peppermint flavor hit a nice balance and wasn't too heavy. The chocolate and white chips added an occasional pop of flavor and richness while the candy cane pieces added some crunch and cool mint flavor. I wouldn't turn my nose up at either the Oreo or Double Chocolate Peppermint Footlong Cookie but between the two, I'd choose the Oreo version.
