Review: Taco Bell Chicken Cheesy Dipping Burritos

Taco Bell's Chicken Cheesy Dipping Burritos feature Cantina slow-roasted chicken, a 3-cheese blend, and Avocado Ranch sauce wrapped in a soft flour tortilla and then grilled with cheese. They come two to an order and come with a choice of dipping sauce.

I paid $5.49 and went with Creamy Jalapeno Sauce for my dipping sauce.

An expansive layer of browned and melted cheese sat over both burritos and, combined with the gooey cheese inside, delivered a creamy and mild flavor throughout. The browning was good for a slightly more complex, toasty note. The cheese also ensured that any mostly tortilla bites at the end weren't too boring.

Besides the melted cheese inside, there was just a slight bit of Avocado Ranch and a good amount of chicken. The Avocado Ranch was good for a slight tang and robustness while the chicken was flavorful, juicy, and tender with an enjoyable meaty bite. I much prefer the Cantina slow-roasted chicken's flavor and texture over Taco Bell's grilled chicken.

Most of the dipping sauce options were creamy (sour cream and nacho cheese sauce) or mayo-based (Spicy Ranch, Avocado Ranch, Creamy Chipotle, and Creamy Jalapeno sauces) which was a bit curious given the strong cheesy component in the burritos. The Creamy Jalapeno offered a fresh grassy note and mild heat from the jalapenos to go with the creamy tang of a mayo base. The extra creaminess felt a bit unnecessary on top of all the cheese and I found myself thinking that a salsa or hot sauce of some sort would have contributed a welcomed acidity to the experience.

Still, I found myself liking Taco Bell's Chicken Cheesy Dipping Burritos very much as they're basically simpler, smaller versions of the Grilled Cheese Burrito, which I also liked a lot. I particularly liked the meat-to-cheese-to-tortilla ratio as the meat and cheese stood out better versus Taco Bell's other burritos.
