A 5-piece order costs $3, but you can also get them as part of the $7 Dunk It Bucket, which includes two tenders, individual-sized Secret Recipe Fries, and five Mashed Potato Poppers. I ended up going with the latter, which had a lid that held three dipping sauces and was filled with a lot more fries than an individual-sized serving.
The Mashed Potato Poppers are coin-shaped and reminded me of Burger King's Cheesy Tots in size, shape, and texture of the crust. There was an even layer of crispy, fine breading on each Popper. Inside was a bite's worth of smooth mashed potatoes.
Unfortunately, the breading was quite salty, which covered up the flavor and creaminess of the mashed potatoes. I think a bigger, more ball-like shape would have made for a better taste. Dipping the Mashed Potato Poppers in gravy added a much-needed dose of flavor and richness that helped balance out the saltiness.
Taken altogether, KFC's Mashed Potato Poppers were just okay for me. The textures were good, but the taste was rather plain (other than salt). The gravy helped though, and also went well with the tenders and fries.
